Steroids for Psoriasis

Before I became the Prednisone Pharmacist, I read hundreds of patient stories struggling with prednisone.

It’s not that I was that interested in prednisone back then…

It was because people like us who take prednisone look for alternatives.

We want anything but these awful side effects, right?

So their doctors wrote letters asking for expensive alternatives to prednisone to treat their condition.

My job was to see if they could qualify or not, and I always tried to find ways to approve the newer treatments.

So it’s exciting to hear of new treatments that are “steroid-sparing” or allow people to avoid prednisone or its fellow steroids.

Today’s video is all about a few new treatments for a condition called psoriasis.

Find out how they help people avoid steroids.

Watch now!

Psoriasis is a medical condition that is difficult to manage and involves areas of skin that are dry, itchy, cracked, and sometimes bloody. Current treatments include topical medications, immunosuppressants, and steroids such as fluticasone and budesonide.

However, newer, non-steroid and steroid-sparing treatments such as VTAMA and Zoryve are increasingly being used to address the symptoms and side effects of psoriasis.

For those using steroid therapy, consider downloading a checklist to help monitor, prevent, and manage any possible side effects of Prednisone.

Key Takeaways:

  1. It is important to consider side effects of Prednisone when managing psoriasis.
  2. Psoriasis is a difficult condition to manage that causes dry, itchy, cracked, and bloody patches of skin.
  3. Treatments for psoriasis include topical medications, immunosuppressants, and steroids, like Prednisone.
  4. Newer, non-steroid and steroid-sparing options for psoriasis like VTAMA and Zori are becoming popular.
