The news sites around the world excitedly proclaim that the first drug to actually save lives infected by COVID-19 has been discovered in the UK: prednisone’s sister drug, dexamethasone. If it can save lives with COVID-19, does that mean I should stockpile dexamethasone?
After all, we stockpiled other products; from toilet paper to hydroxychloroquine. So what about dexamethasone, the new “miracle drug” for coronavirus infections?
Who Does Dexamethasone Help?
The evidence released by the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom shows exciting results. They showed statistically significant findings for certain people infected by COVID-19. Those who found the most benefit include:
- Intubated Patients (a machine is breathing for them)
- Patients dependent on Oxygen (a machine is making air for them)
