Calcium causes some drug interactions. One of the most common for Prednisone Warriors is with a thyroid medication. Levothyroxine is important for people with hypothyroidism.

But calcium can block levothyroxine absorption.

How does Calcium affect Thyroid Medication?

There is a drug interaction between calcium and levothyroxine. Based on this study, it is shown that

if calcium and Levothyroxine is taken together the dose of Levothyroxine is blocked by 20% – 25%!

How to take Levothyroxine?

  • Should be taken without food and first thing in the morning. Take both prednisone and levothyroxine but wait at least 3 or 4 hours before calcium consumption.
  • Take both prednisone and levothyroxine but wait at least 3 to 4 hours before calcium consumption.
