Prednisone Warrior Henry – Dermatitis
In today’s story, Henry, a prednisone warrior shares his experience with Dermatitis. This article is part of a series of stories of Prednisone Warriors sharing their experience with prednisone side effects.
I am now 81 years old. As a young child, about age 6, I suffered from Eczema (basically I would scratch itches beneath the ear lobes which in turn would bleed because I scratched off the scabs and this was a repeating cycle. I guess I grew out of it by age 8 or 9. In my freshman year of high school, I started scratching my arms to the point they would bleed and form patches of raw skin. Sometimes I would wrap my arms in bandages before bedtime so I would not scratch, waking in the morning with the bandages on the floor, new raw skin, and bloody sheets.
I was under the care of a Dermatologist during my remaining high school years. Sometime after I graduated high school the dermatologist prescribed a salve called Cort-Dome. Within 2 weeks of use, the itching ceased and my raw arms healed completely.
I continued using Cort-Dome for the remainder of the prescription. Soon after came my last visit to the Dermatologist. I asked him if I could just buy the cream base. The answer was yes, and over the counter as well. I continued to use Dome-Cream whenever my skin started getting dry, before the itching started. I continued using the cream well into my twenties when I ceased using it because it was no longer necessary.
This is a true account of my battle with Contact Dermatitis.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have, either by email or telephone.
