Control What You Can Control – Prednisone Side Effects

Losing Control

At first they took away normal social behavior like handshakes. Use elbow-bumps instead.

Then they said to keep our distance – at least 6 feet.

Then they told us to stay away from everyone, to stay home.

Disneyland closed. Churches closed. Even schools closed.

Slowly and surely, each little normal part of society disappeared as just a memory of what it was like before.

📖 Prednisone Parable 📖

Taking prednisone can feel like this same process of losing normal.

At first, it might have felt good, with extra energy and the disease symptoms finally going away.

But then, the mood might change, suddenly feeling out of control and not like yourself anymore.

Or the appetite might seem like enough hunger to feed 10 people.

And sleep? Forget about that.

Not to mention the shaky hands, fast heartbeat, skin changes, or any of the other 150 side effects.

What can we do about the sudden lack of normal?

Of the sudden changes to our control?

My goal as the Prednisone Pharmacist is to help you navigate this tough time. A Prednisone Warrior summed it up best when she said:

Dr. Megan and thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us; it is invaluable. I have been trying for over 3 years to get off prednisone, and now because of you, I can at least try to balance my health by changing the things that are in my control to change. Continued blessing for you.

What is in our control?

I outlined those things in the Prednisone Checklist. Those are some things you can control, even when it seems like everything is out of our control.

Last week, I heard a summit that really inspired me. A health coach said something even more inspiring…

Excel at the controllables.

He took it a step farther and challenged us to become experts at what we can actually control.

I challenge you to do the same.

So many things–more every day–are out of our control. But we can control so many of the things that matter most.
